The Sony Xperia Sola gets Android 4.0 ICS with new “Glove Mode”

Along with the Xperia U and the Xperia Go, the Sony Xperia Sola also got an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich over the weekend.

The update brings the same updates to the Xperia Sola that the Xperia S, U, P and other Sony ICS phones got, such as:
  • New ways to experience your tunes, images, videos and films with Sony’s media applications – “WALKMAN”, “Album” and “Movies”
  • Extended standby mode, increasing standby time by up to four times (depending on user-profile and data consumption)
  • Lock screen with improved functionality
  • Resizable widgets for improved personalization
  • Improved control of your mobile data consumption
  • Recent Apps button for a clear overview of your applications

It does get one more cool little feature though. The ICS update enables full use of the Xperia Sola while wearing gloves.

One of the main selling points of the phone (according to Sony) was the Floating Touch sensor which allows users to interact with the phone without having to even touch the screen and the gloves-on capability took a while to get here, but it’s finally enabled. Glove Mode is activated depending on how you unlock your phone and there’s also a manual toggle.
