HTC One S Will Not Get Android 4.2 Or Sense 5 Update Read more: HTC One S Will Not Get Android 4.2 Or Sense 5 Update

The lightweight aluminum construction, distinct design, blazing performance and somewhat affordable price combined to make a mid-range device that was in many ways more desirable and accessible than the One X, the HTC One S didn’t reach the level of success that HTC expected.
Both the HTC One S and One X began their lives with the same Android 4.0.3 software running Sense 4.0. But, as flagship products tend to, the One X got more love from the Taiwanese manufacturer, while the middle child played second fiddle, receiving sporadic updates that finally petered out.
While the HTC One S was updated to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean beginning in February, the company has decided that it will not be updated to Android 4.2 like its One X counterpart.
We can confirm that the HTC One S will not receive further Android OS updates and will remain on the current version of Android and HTC Sense.  We realize this news will be met with disappointment by some, but our customers should feel confident that we have designed the HTC One S to be optimized with our amazing camera and audio experiences.
Yes, HTC, this will be met with disappointment. There is no reason whatsoever the One S should be cast aside while the One X should continue to thrive.
Not only is the HTC One S still a solid handset in its own right, but we can also imagine that the device will receive further updates going forward via custom ROMs from the developer community. After all, if the HTC G1 can rock Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in any facet, you can bet that the HTC One S will be in good hands.
Any HTC One S owners looking to flash a custom ROM going forward or are you happy with it as it is?

Windows 8 upgrade to cost a bomb from February 1

If you’re still deciding if you want to upgrade to Windows 8 or not, we advice you make your decision as soon as possible because come February 1, Microsoft will increase the prices of Windows 8 Pro upgrade edition and what costs a mere $39.33 (Rs.2,200) right now, would cost $200 (Rs.11,000) after January 31.
At the time of launch of the new OS, Microsoft had announced that the upgrade to Windows 8 Pro was just a promotional offer and would be valid for a limited time only. Even though Microsoft did announce that a price correction would happen, not many people believed that Microsoft would actually increase the price. Currently, Microsoft allows the users of Windows 7, Vista or XP to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro edition for just $39.99.
According to the official Windows blog, the new prices effective from February 1,2013 are as follows-
  • The Windows 8 Pro upgrade edition will be available online and at retail for $199.99 MSRP (U.S.).
  • The Windows 8 upgrade edition will be available online and at retail for $119.99 MSRP (U.S.).
  • The Windows 8 Pro Pack will cost $99.99 MSRP (U.S.).
  • The Windows 8 Media Center Pack will cost $9.99 MSRP (U.S.).
Considering the offer price, the new cost for upgrade to Windows 8 Pro seems quite steep. This deadline can also be seen as a final attempt by Microsoft to rake in more and more people to switch to the latest version of it’s OS. Though Microsoft has recently announced that the company has sold nearly 40 million licenses for Windows 8, but still many analysts feel that the new Operating System isn’t performing as well as the company would have liked.
If you plan to upgrade your OS after February 11 but a re reluctant to spend $200, Microsoft has got a cheaper alternative for you. Microsoft will offer a basic Windows 8 edition for $120, which obviously would get lesser features as compared to Windows 8 Pro edition.
Also, the Media Center Pack, which is available for free to Windows 8 Pro users as of now, would cost $10 from February 1. This would mark an end to all the promotional offers, which came along with Windows 8 at it’s launch. It is also to be noted that even the Windows 8 previews expired on January 15 and the users who hadn’t purchased the license, had their systems restarted every one or two hours asking them to upgrade to a paid copy of Windows 8 Pro.

Apple Stock slips after report of waning iPhone Sales

After an unconfirmed report of the iPhones sales dropping in December, Apple investors seem to be dropping out of the bite.  Investors briefly drove Apple stock below $500 on Monday, continuing a slide from a peak of more than $700 in September.
This continued downfall has increased the pressure on the pending January 23rd Earnings call that would lead to immediate reforms for the company. If Apple wildly exceeds expectations, as it did last year, investors hope the Apple stock will repeat the remarkable run that peaked in September.
But if the earnings disappoint, or if Apple execs reduce their sales projections for the coming quarter, there’s no telling how far Apple stock that’s already down 28.5% in the last three months could plummet. Apple’s stock closed Monday at $501.75, down $18.55, or 3.57%.
Like many Apple rumors and stories, however, this latest development was open to different interpretations. Many analysts and independent observers suggested indications that Apple had cut its outlook for the iPhone 5 by as much as half seemed extreme, given recent reports of strong smartphone sales by Verizon Wireless and AT&T.
Another view could have been the early launch of a revised iPhone, that possibly has a different size or type of display. A newer iPhone, a newer iPad and a retina iPad mini are all the correct tools that Apple needs to drive stock back up to the wonderful $700 mark.

Google NeXus 4: Specification And Review

Google bombed the smartphone market when it announced it’s latest flagship smartphone, the Nexus 4. Even with the top-of-the-line specifications, Google priced the device at a mere $299 in the US for an unlocked 8GB version while the 16GB version was priced at $350. The viral effect of the pricing was seen at the time of launch of the Nexus 4, when it went out of stock within minutes of being launched and since then, LG and Google have been struggling to get the smartphone in-stock again.
The Google Nexus 4 comes with beautiful 4.7-inch True HD IPS Plus display with a resolution of 768 x 1280 pixels which amounts to 317 pixels per inch (ppi) and blows away even the iPhone 5′s Retina display. The smartphone is powered by a 1.5GHz Quad-core Qualcom Snapdragron processor, Adreno 320GPU and 2GB of RAM. The raw power under the hood of the Nexus 4 is enough to blow the competition out of water and provide the best Android experience you can get till date.
The Nexus 4 houses an 8 megapixel camera with LED flash at the back which is nothing to brag about, but takes some decent pictures nonetheless. The front of the Nexus 4 also gets a 1.3 megapixel VGA camera which can be used for video calling. The phone comes with 8GB or 16GB storage options with no expandable storage option which is a bit of a downer as the storage space will surely be a concern, especially if you end up buying the 8GB version.
The Google Nexus 4 gets a 2,100 mAh battery which does a fairly decent job and the phone can easily last through a full day of usage. Another bummer with the Nexus 4 is the fact that it lacks 4G LTE connectivity which could be a deal breaker for some. Now, the price at which the Nexus 4 comes is just unbelievable, which is less than half the price at which it’s rivals like the Galaxy S3 and iPhone 5 retail in the US. Wait till we come out with our detailed review of the Nexus 4 and see if it really lives up to the hype.

Micromax Superfone Canvas 2 A110 Review

With the huge success of the Superfone Canvas A100, Micromax has decided to do raise the bar once again for what a sub-10K Android smartphone should look like. With the same massive 5-inch screen making a comeback, they’ve managed to fit in a dual-core CPU this time – all for the same price as the previous one. Too good to be true?

Design and Build
The Canvas 2 A110 once again borrows many design cues from the Galaxy Nexus. The chrome trim along the side is shaped in such a way so as to create an illusion of a curved glass. You get a nice nice chunky volume rocker on one side along with a power/sleep button on the other side. The phone appears larger than it actually is due to thick bezels on either side. There is a row of sensors beside the chrome plated earpiece and the back cover is quite sturdy and doesn’t scratch easily. The matt finish helps keep fingerprints away. The 8MP shooter produces quite a bulge at the back so you need to be careful as the lens cover will scratch easily.
A decent camera
A decent camera

The 5-inch LCD display has quite a low resolution of 854 x 480 which makes images, icons, etc. lose their sharpness. The screen doesn’t appear to be of a very good quality either as the viewing angles are pretty poor and there’s terrible banding throughout.  We now know where Micromax has cut corners in order to offer this phone at the same price point.

could have had a larger battery
Could have had a larger battery

Overall, the Canvas 2 is built well but is too bulky and quite heavy as well. We could have done without the chrome trim along the edges which quite frankly, gives the phone a cheap look. But then again, it is a cheap phone so there’s that. Unfortunately, the placement of the microSD card does not allow for hot-swap as the battery gets in the way.

Features
Interface
The Canvas 2 A110 sticks to the stock interface of Android Ice Cream Sandwich for the most part, except for some changes to the notification bar, where we now have side-scrollable toggle switches. The UI is far from smooth though, which is a bit strange when you consider the fact that it’s powered by a dual-core CPU. It all makes sense when you take a closer look at the type of SoC used. Instead of a Qualcomm or TI OMAP, Micromax has used the MT6577 SoC from MediaTek. This comprises of a dual-core 1GHz Cortex-A9 CPU and PowerVR GPU. This SoC is specifically designed for the sub-$200 smartphone segment and has the potential to support up to 720p displays and record videos at 1080p. Unfortunately, Micromax has not exploited its full potential, which is why we have to live with lag in the UI. Another important feature that’s missing is an ambient light sensor.
UI is not the smoothest
UI is not the smoothest

Other than the stock UI and apps, Micromax has added a SIM management option to set the default card for call, messages, Internet, etc. Both SIMs can be active at the same time if needed. Another feature added is a scheduled power off option, which lets you switch the phone on or off at a designated time and day of the week.

Nokia Lumia 920′s 4G capabilities useless in India

Have you been waiting for this amazing Windows Phone 8 handset from Nokia since long now? Well, even before we have a confirmed date of release for the Nokia Lumia 920 in India, we a confirmed bit of bad news for you.
If the full specifications of Lumia 920 listed on Nokia’s website are anything to go by, the flagship Windows Phone 8 handset from Nokia will not run on the 4G networks available in India, even though the handset comes with 4G LTE capabilities.
Confused? Okay, we’ll explain. Though, the Nokia Lumia 920 comes with 4G LTE capabilities, but most of countries all over the world have implemented Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) standards, which run on 2100 and 2600 MHz bands, while Indian (and China, as well) have implemented Time Division Duplex (TDD) standards, which run on 2300 MHz bands. Thus, manufacturers tend to use more widely adopted, 2100 and 2600 MHz bands on their device.
Hence, the users in India will not be able to access the internet at 4G speeds. This might not be an issue for the users as till now, even the 3G network isn’t as widely used and the 4G network as of now, is just being provided by one carrier and that too, only in 3 cities. So, it might take a long while for 4G to make it’s mark in India.
With all this being said, you might still miss the lack of 4G in India on the Lumia 920, because even if/when you decide give 4G a try, you won’t really have an option if you end up buying the Lumia 920.

Yahoo! redesigns email, updates iOS, Android and Windows 8 Apps

After taking the company’s charge back in July this year, Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer has been constantly working hard to plan out some revival strategies for the internet giant. In her latest move, Marissa Mayer has now announced a refreshed Yahoo! mail service, which the company claims, will provide faster and easier navigation to the users.
Even in it’s struggling times, the email service from Yahoo! had been the biggest source for the company to generate traffic on the website, and thus the company has now unveiled a cleaner look in a bid to sustain it’s crown as the most widely used email service which has constantly seen declining popularity as it’s rival Gmail is inching closer to take the top spot.
The update has been rolled out for Yahoo’s iOS, Android and Windows 8 Apps as of now, but will be available for the desktop users in the next few days. The look and feel of the new email App is same on every platform.
According to the company, with these new features, it’s users can access their inbox with just one tap and using continouus scrolling, can quickly browse through all their emails. The users will receive automatic notifications for new messages. Other features on the new App include swipe to delete, flag, mark as read or move the messages.
The upgraded App also gives an option to select multiple emails at a time to enable faster organization of the inbox. Adding attachments has been improved as well, and now, the users can take pictures while composing an email, search for attachments across all the messages and preview the photos at the top of an email.
The year 2012 has been quite turbulent for Yahoo! and the company has seen declining profits since a while now. Even with 700 million monthly visitors, the company still faces a tough fight from the likes of Facebook and Google whose rise has been one of the biggest factors in cutting down of Yahoo!’s profits.

Rumor: Apple readying it’s TV Set, begins early stage of testing!

If rumors are anything to go by, then you should start expecting that Apple will soon change the Television as you know it! A recent report by the Wall Street Journal suggests that Apple is working with it’s suppliers in Asia to test several designs relating to it’s own large screen high definition television set.
According to the report Hon Hai (better known as Foxconn) and Sharp have been working closely with the Cupertino based company to test the designs of it’s television sets since several months now. Though, there has been such rumors in the past too, but we can expect things shaping up for good this time around and moreover, it’s quite some time since Apple introduced “the next big thing” to the world.
The rumor also seems legit after Tim Cook dropping a big hint recently about Apple preparing it’s own TV wherein he said,
When I go into my living room and turn on the TV, I feel like I have gone backwards in time by 20 to 30 years. It’s an area of intense interest. I can’t say more than that.
  [source: cnet]
One of Apple’s biggest rival, Google has already started to make it’s Android OS available on TV’s as well. Though, it isn’t as successful as of now but Apple’s foray into this segment will surely heat up the things for others as well. If this really turns out to be true, you can surely expect Apple’s battle with Samsung to reach new highs as the latter is the world’s biggest TV maker as of now.
World’s most valued company has been doing excellent in the terms of sales of it’s products but it has been quite some time since the company unleashed another game changing product from it’s stable like the iPhone (or the iPad). With these rumors, we do hope that apple takes the covers off the iTV (well, that’s what it should be called, right?) really soon.

Adobe Photoshop And Illustrator CS6 Updated With Retina Display Support

Adobe has released an update to its Premier Pro Creative Suite 6 (CS6) that will enable users to view and edit images and video at the resolution of the Retina Display found in the Apple iPad and the new Macbook Pro.
The Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 6.0.2 update is available now and should not only make images clearer but also any text should appear crisper and cleaner.
With this update, customers can see more detail in images, text, and in the Illustrator user interface when working on high-resolution displays, including the new Retina display available on MacBook Pro. The HiDPI feature in Illustrator is currently only available on Mac OS. It is expected to be available in the future on additional operating systems.
Adobe had announced in late August that it would be bringing Retina display support to a number of its titles over the following months, with Photoshop and Illustrator being two of the highest-profile applications receiving the upgrade. At the time, Adobe noted that the upgrade process for Photoshop alone required the replacement of 2500 icons and cursors, as well as other engineering work to optimize the experience for Retina displays.
The update – which is also available for PCs and will support Windows 8 – promises to iron out any bugs customers have claimed to experience and will also be able to handle fully the GT 650M CPU found in the new MacBook Pro.
However, Adobe has said that Mac owners who use Premier Pro should update their computer to Mac OSX v10.8 Mountain Lion to ensure a better experience.

Untethered Jailbreak For New iOS 6 Devices To Be Released By Dream JB On Dec. 22 Read more: Untethered Jailbreak For New iOS 6 Devices To Be Released By Dream JB On Dec. 22

There is some happy news for those who keenly look forward for iOS 6 untethered jailbreaks for iPhone 5. A mysterious and unknown hacker calling himself “Dream JB” is promising to release an untethered iOS 6 jailbreak for the iPad mini, latest iPad and iPhone 5 on December 22. Dream JB is not associated with any known dev team, and the group has posted a message on its website claiming video proof of the one-click solution will arrive tomorrow via an unedited YouTube video.
If true, the new untethered jailbreak will support all current Apple devices running iOS 6.0.1. This includes the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad 2 and beyond, iPad Mini, iPod Touch 4th generation and beyond.
A jailbreak for iOS 6 has been available for a long time, but it’s a tethered solution that means once you’ve used it, your iOS device has to be plugged into your Mac or PC every time you need to boot it up. Restart your iPhone on the train home from work, then, and it’ll be pretty much useless until you get home.
What’s more, that jailbreak isn’t compatible with Apple’s latest iOS devices, which means if you have an iPhone 5 or a fourth-generation iPad, you’re stuck using the firmware the way Apple intended it to be used.
Most jailbreakers only use jailbreaking tools from proven sources such as the iPhone DevTeam, or Absinthe creator pod2g. And not surprisingly, a large portion of the jailbreaking community is calling Dream JB’s untethered jailbreak a scam.
Let’s see if they’ve really managed to pull off the seemingly impossible, it doesn’t matter to the iPhone 5 owners where the jabilbreak comes from, as long as there is one. Only time will tell if Dream JB has really done it.
Of course, everyone knows that the world ends on December 21st… so there’s speculation this is all a joke. We’ll find out soon enough.

Twitter strikes back at Instagram, launches it’s own photo filters Read more: Twitter strikes back at Instagram with it's photo filters

Just a few days after Facebook-owned Instagram removed the Twitter photo integration from the photo sharing service, the micro blogging website Twitter has struck back and launched it’s own filters for its Android and iOS Apps.
Rumors were doing the rounds since last month about Twitter readying its own photo filters for it’s iOS and Android Apps and yesterday, in an official announcement, Twitter said that it has rolled out updates for its mobile App on iOS and Android that will add new features and let the users enhance their captured images via the in-app image filters, before uploading them on twitter.
The new update adds 8 new filters in the App- Vignette, Black and White, Warm, Cool, Vintage , Cinematic, Happy and Gritty. Along with these new filters, the App update also brings some new editing features like Auto enhance to balance light and colors, pinch too zoom and Cropping.
Also, there is a birds-eye view element which will enable to users to see how each filter acts on a given image in a single grid view. Plus, you can also swipe photos to compare how each filter acts on the given image.
Earlier this week, Instagram had disabled the Twitter cards integration which enabled the users to view Instagram images on Twitter and as  a result, the photos taken via Instagram appeared to be cropped on the Twitter timeline of  users. Confirming the same, the CEO of Instagram said that the move was a step by the company to make the users view photos on Instagram’s own website instead of Twitter.

Nokia Lumia 505 teased, wants to become its cheapest Windows Phone yet

Nokia has just unveiled the affordable mid-ranger Lumia 620, but to get Windows Phone to even more people it needs cheaper devices. And that’s where the Nokia Lumia 505 comes in.

The Lumia 505 has not yet been officially announced, but judging by this recent leak this would soon happen. The device is said to launch first and exclusively in Mexico

The upcoming Windows Phone device was teased on Facebook with the following specs:

“[A] 3.5 – 4 inch WVGA display, 800 MHz single-core processor, 256MB of RAM, and 4GB of internal memory.”

Those should push it closer to the low end Android devices, but still it’s clear that Android covers much greater depths in the low end than Windows Phone can at the moment.

The Lumia 505 is shown in red, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see it in the typically vibrant colors that Nokia devices have. How does such an affordable device look to you?
